settings. MTC is the leader in providing on-site therapeutic
services to children. MTC Services Include: * Comprehensive developmental screenings * Evaluations * Speech/Language therapy * Occupational therapy * Behavioral therapy and consultations * Developmental resources * Innovative therapy activities * Enrichment programs * Informational in-services and training What is Speech Therapy and who needs it? • Speech therapists are educated in the study of human communication, its development, and the disorders associated with it. Speech therapists also have expertise in the areas of play skills, attention and social language that maximizes your child’s potential to succeed in future academic and social settings. Speech therapists evaluate a child’s articulation, oral motor abilities, feeding capabilities, voice and fluency of speech and receptive, expressive and social language skills. Children who have needs in any of these areas would benefit from a formal evaluation by a speech therapist. What is Occupational Therapy and who needs it? • Occupational therapists focus on helping children excel in the “occupations” of childhood – learning, self-care, socializing, and PLAY. They are trained to help children attain developmental skills and achieve independence at home, in school and within their community. OTs evaluate a child’s fine motor skills, visual perceptual skills, visual motor skills, self-help skills, play skills, motor coordination and sensory processing abilities. Children who have needs in any of these areas would benefit from a formal evaluation by an occupational therapist. What is Social Emotional Development? • Early childhood is both the most critical and most vulnerable time in any child’s development. Research demonstrates that in the first few years, the ingredients for intellectual, emotional and moral growth are laid down. If these are not appropriately developed, a child can still acquire them. However, the price rises and the chances of success decrease with each subsequent year. How do our Social Workers provide services? • In our work with children and families, we take a multi-faceted approach based on knowledge and theory of professionally accepted theoretical practices. This may include the use of therapy through play, family therapy or behavioral therapy (defined as looking at how the environment shapes one’s behavior), among others. In all interventions used, the child’s development stage/needs and interactions with all involved in his care are closely reviewed. The goal is always to ensure success in all areas of the child’s life.
“My child doesn’t have a medical diagnosis or any severe
difficulties. He just seems unable to perform simple tasks like
